SINGAPORE, 5 DECEMBER 1941: With little information coming from the Army or the press, the majority of Singapore's residents are oblivious to the looming threats surrounding them. Meanwhile, the Japanese forces make their landing 400 miles to the north and begin their advance southward. The narrative introduces several women who will eventually find themselves imprisoned, including Marion Jefferson, Sister Ulrica, Christina Campbell, Nurses Kate Norris and Nellie Keene, Rose Millar, and Dr. Beatrice Mason.
